Resiliency

Our veteran community is comprised of tremendously talented, giving, and successful individuals. Many have endured tremendous hardships and even failures. These challenges have occurred in and out of uniform. While in uniform, we were driven by the need and responsibilities of carrying out our duties. For many, there was no time to dwell on the traumas. These then resurfaced while out of uniform and sometimes not at opportune times. Yet, our veterans pushed through and have managed to raise families, start businesses, and give back to our communities in countless ways. They are doctors, lawyers, police officers, and business owners, and work in every occupation in the workforce. As we well know, life is a series of challenges and setbacks. We must allow time for reflection and assessment; however, we must not dwell when misfortune strikes. We must understand that we continue to have responsibilities that require us to push on. There are veterans who may need us, whether it be time or resources.  Dwelling will deprive us of the ability to be ready to provide that assistance to those veterans who may be experiencing difficulties. Stay focused, stay committed, and always remember your responsibilities to each other.

I wish each of you, a very prosperous New Year.

Semper Fidelis
